The cows are milked at 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day. But the cows don't need an alarm clock. They start lining up at the entrance to the parlor ahead of the milking time. Once inside the milking parlor, six cows are positioned on each side. They enter in single file and an employee cleans and disinfects the udder before the milking machine is attached. When the flow of milk stops, the milking apparatus drops off automatically. On the average during the year, each cow produces 3.5 gallons of milk during each milking session, or a total of 7 gallons of milk per day.
